1. PM Narendra Modi unveils statue of peasant leader Sir Chhotu Ram 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 64-foot-tall statue of peasant leader Sir Chhotu Ram at his native village Sampla in Haryana's Rohtak district.
  • Sir Chhotu Ram, who was born on November 24, 1881, was regarded as a messiah of peasants and was instrumental in empowering farmers in pre-Independence era and getting pro-farmers law enacted. He had fought for farmers' rights during the British rule. 


2. Sushma Swaraj launches India for Humanity initiative
  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched India for Humanity initiative in New Delhi as part of 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi being held over the next one year.
  • ‘India for Humanity’ features a year-long series of artificial limb fitment camps in a number of countries spanning the globe. 
  • The External Affairs Ministry is collaborating for this with charitable organization Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, BMVSS. Founded in 1975 and better known by its trademark limb Jaipur Foot, BMVSS is among the world’s largest organisations for the fitment of artificial limbs and till date has served over 1.73 million amputees. 


3. Moody's sees fiscal deficit at 3.4% in FY19 
  • The government plans to reduce fiscal deficit to 3.3 per cent of GDP in 2018-19 from 3.53 per cent a year ago. 
  • The fiscal deficit target for 2018-19 is Rs 6.24 lakh crore. 

4. IMF projects 7.3% growth for India in 2018
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday forecasted a growth rate of 7.3 per cent for India in the current year of 2018 and that of 7.4 per cent in 2019.


5. Minister of State for Commerce attends India–West Africa conclave in Nigeria
  • Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, C. R. Chaudhary, is leading the Indian delegation to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)- EXIM Bank, Regional Conclave on India-West Africa Project Partnership being held in Abuja, Nigeria on 8th – 9th October 2018. 
  • India have decided to support to build Mahatma Gandhi International Convention Centre (MGICC)in Niamey in Niger at the cost of USD 35.5 million on grant basis.


6. Mobile Health app for citizens of India Launched by IAF on Air Force Day
  • On the occasion of 86th anniversary, the Indian Air Force has launched an innovative mobile health App named ‘MedWatch’ in keeping with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Digital India, Ayushman Bharat and Mission Indradhanush’.


7. Shri J P Nadda inaugurates ‘2nd World Conference on Access to Medical Products: Achieving the SDGs 2030’
  • Shri J P Naddareleased the Position Paper and launched the Information Sharing Platform Gateway for South-East Asia Regulatory Network (SEARN) developed by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
  • The main objective of the 2nd World Conference 2018 is to take forward the recommendations from the 1st World Conference 2017 and build on the work done for access to medical products in the context of SDGs.


8. World Post Day - 9th October 
  • The day is celebrated every year on 9th October marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. 
  • It was declared World Post Day by the Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo in 1969. 


9. Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires 
  • Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins the first gold for India in youth olympics in Men's 62 Kg category in weightlifting.
  • Ekta Bhyan also won Gold in the women's club throw event.
